Birth Registration

Online Birth Registration Information System (BRIS) allows Bangladesh citizens to apply for Online Birth Registration Certificate through the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Toronto. Applicants can also view their ‘Application Status’ as well as verify their Birth registration. Bangladesh citizens not having Birth Registration Certificate can apply for online Birth Registration. Before applying, all applicants are requested to go through the “Required Documents” and “Steps to Follow” given below:

Required Documents

Applicants Born in Bangladesh

  • Printed copy of the application form obtained from Online BRIS.
  • Proof of Bangladeshi nationality (PHOTOCOPY of any 1 of the following documents will suffice):
  1. Bangladesh Passport containing information page (s)
  2. NID Card
  3. Bangladesh Birth Registration Certificate (older versions)
  4. Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Certificate
  5. Documents on Birth from Bangladeshi Hospitals
  • Photocopy of Canadian Photo ID (government issued)
  • One recent photograph (45 mm X 35 mm) of the applicant.
  • Payment of C$ 10.00 by Bank Draft/Money Order or Debit/Credit Card

Applicants Born Abroad

  • Printed copy of the application form obtained from Online BRIS.
  • Birth Certificate issued by the local authority (where both parents’ names and details are included)
  • Proof of Parents’ Bangladeshi Origin (PHOTOCOPY of any 1 of the following will suffice):
  1. Bangladesh Passports containing information page(s) (Both Parents)
  2. NID Cards (Both Parents)
  3. Bangladeshi Birth Registration Certificates (older versions) (Both Parents)
  4. Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Certificates (Both Parents)
  • One recent photograph (45 mm X 35 mm) of the applicant.
  • Payment of C$ 10.00 by Bank Draft/Money Order or Debit/Credit Card

Steps to Follow

Step-1

Visit Online Birth Registration Portal http://bris.lgd.gov.bd/pub to submit your information online. (Please take your time to read the instructions carefully and fill in all fields carefully)

Step-2

Select your Registration Office from the dropdown menu. (Please select Toronto if you are submitting your application at the Bangladesh Consulate General in Toronto.)

Step-3

Fill in all the necessary fields in the first page in Bangla followed by another page in English. (Under the section titled “Passport”, in case the applicant does not possess a valid Bangladesh passport, may enter the information of one of the parents’ valid Bangladesh Passport, which needs to be submitted along with application package).

Step-4

Follow instructions to Save and Print the Online Application Form. Put your signature under “আবেদনকারীর প্রত্যায়ন”. Also write your phone number and email address on the application form (use any blank space).

Step-5

Submission of documents must be done within 15 days in either of the two ways:

(a) By Postal Mail: Applicants need to send: (i) A Bank Draft/Money Order of C$ 10.00 in favor of “Bangladesh Consulate General in Toronto”, (ii) All Required Documents and (iii) Self-addressed pre-paid express return envelope by post to the “Consular Section, Consulate General of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, 1505-2235 Sheppard Ave. East (Atria II), Toronto, ON M2J 5B5, Canada”.

(b) In Person Submission: Please click https://service.bdcgtoronto.ca to book your appointment with the Consulate General . Payment can be made through debit/credit card at the Consulate General, please click here to check Consular Fees. Please note that The Consulate General of Bangladesh in Toronto does not accept any cash.

Step-6

If all the documents are found in order and satisfactory the Birth Registration Certificate will be issued.  

Step-7

As soon as the Certificate is issued, it will be posted back to the return address given that the applicant has provided a return envelope. If applicant wants to pick-up the certificate in-person, the Consulate General will intimate the pick-up schedule via e-mail, phone or other means.

Special Note

  • The Consulate General of Bangladesh reserves the right to request for any additional document at any stage of the application process.
  • The Consulate General of Bangladesh reserves the right to withhold any application for further scrutiny.
  • If requires, the applicant may be requested for an interview with the Consulate General.
  • Applicant needs bring photocopies of the documents.
