Birth Registration
Birth Registration Information System (BDRIS) allows Bangladeshi citizens to apply for Birth Certificate through the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Toronto, Canada. Bangladesh citizens not having Birth Certificate can apply online for Birth Registration & Certificate. Birth Registration is processed in accordance with the ‘The Birth and Death Registration Act-2018’. Birth Registration applicants MUST read ‘The Birth and Death Registration Act-2018’ carefully prior to initiating the application process.
COVID-19 Safety Guidelines:
The Consulate General of Bangladesh in Toronto renders in-person consular services amid COVID-19 pandemic. Except few specific services (which need personal appearance), applicants can apply online followed by both way postal deliveries (with trackable return envelope). However, applicants are requested to follow the health guidelines/orders/measures promulgated by the provincial and federal government.
Applicants are humbly requested to follow below guidelines during their in-person appointment at the Consulate General:
i) For in-person interview/consular consultations/submission/collection, please be present at the Consulate General according to your appointment slot as scheduled online.
ii) Visitors must wear face mask, please note that Consulate follows ‘NO MASK NO ENTRY’ policy.
iii) After entering to the consular waiting room visitors must sanitize their hands and
iv) Once inside, visitors must respect social distances i.e., sit in designated chairs, stand only on designated red-marked spots, and maintain 6 feet distance with each other.

Required Documents for Birth Registration
Applicants born in Bangladesh:
i) Confirmation page of the BRIS online application.
ii) Bangladesh Passport* or NID or older version of Birth Registration Certificate or SSC Certificate or Hospital Document.
* For Machine Readable Passport (MRP) the bio-pages (Page 2 & 3) and for old hand-written Passport the first 6 pages along with any other pages containing endorsement/observation.
iii) Canadian photo ID (Passport/PR card/Study Permit/Work Permit/Driver’s License).
iv) 45mmX35mm recent photograph with white background (not older than 6 months).
v) If the applicant wishes to add any information/comments/documents in support of his/her application, may upload online as an additional document.
vi) Online Payment/Bank Draft/Money Order/Certified cheque or to be paid in person by Debit/Credit Card.
Applicants born abroad:
i) Confirmation page of the BRIS online application.
ii) Birth Certificate issued by the host government or local authority (where parents’ names are clearly written).
iii) Non-Canadian applicant must submit proof of their legal status in Canada.
iv) Parents’ Bangladesh Passport* or NID or older version of Birth Registration Certificate or SSC Certificate.

Step 1: BDRIS Online Application

Application tips:
i) Please select বাংলাদেশ দূতাবাস সমুহ > কানাডা > টরন্টো as your registration office from the dropdown menu.
ii) Applicants should add his/her middle name (if any) with the first name in the ‘First Part (Given Name) box’ to reflect his/her full name in the Name Field of the BDRIS Form.
iii) Please refrain from using any special character i.e. ‘,’ ‘-‘ ‘:’ ‘.’ ‘!’ ‘_’ ‘/’ ‘#” ‘%’ ‘^’ ‘&’ ‘*’ ‘( )’ ‘@’ ‘+’ ‘~’ ‘=’ etc. at any point of filling up the application.
iv) If Applicant’s Date of Birth is before 1 Jan. 2001- they do not have to provide parent’s 17-digit Birth Registration #; the information slots in BDRIS ‘Online Application Form’ for the above information can be left empty.
v) Complete the application and save the confirmation page by clicking ‘Print’.
vi) Permanent Address must be in Bangladesh and Present address must be in Canada.
vii) Bangla spelling should be correct, otherwise application will be rejected and applicant has to re-apply. If necessary download appropriate Bangla typing tools.
viii) If the BDRIS link does not open, please clear cookies and cache from your web browser.
ix) If the Applicant needs to correct Parent’s name, please click here.
Special note: Online Application remains valid in the BDRIS system for 14 days only. Applicant must complete ‘Document Submission’ either in-person or by post to the Consulate General within 14 days of online application. Failure to submit/send document(s) within 14 days will result in automatic expiration/deletion of application from BDRIS system.
Step 2: BDCG Online Application
Click here »» Create profile »» Choose service »» Upload photograph »» Complete online application »» Upload all required Documents »» Save & Submit.
A confirmation page will be generated and a copy of that will be sent to the applicant’s e-mail, please print and sign the confirmation page.
Special note: Applicant must send/submit documents to the Consulate within 14 days of online application. Failure to send/submit document(s) within 14 days will result in automatic expiration/deletion of online application from BDRIS online application portal. There will be no refund of fees for such expiration/deletion. Applicant is strongly recommended to send/submit the documents to the Consulate within 14 days of online application otherwise, he/she has to re-apply online @ www.bdris.gov.bd and send/submit the digital copy of the ‘BDRIS Online Application Form’ to the Consulate again.
Step 3: Document Submission
Applicant should send or submit i) signed confirmation page and ii) Online payment or Bank draft/Money order/Certified cheque or payment by Debit/Credit card at the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Toronto within 14 days of BDRIS Online Application.
By Post: Please send a self-addressed trackable (Xpresspost) return envelope with the documents to Consular Section, Bangladesh Consulate General, 2235 Sheppard Ave. East (Atria II), Suite# 1505, Toronto, ON M2J 5B5, Canada. Application sent by post must reach the Consulate General directly, no application will be collected from post office or courier service. Application received without trackable return envelope will not be processed.
In-Person: Applicant must be present at the Consulate General as per online appointment scheduled for in person submission. Booked appointment can be rescheduled/managed by login to Your Application .
Step 4: Paying Fees
For details of Government fees for ‘Birth Registration’, please see Consular Fees. Applicants may pay online- a transaction receipt will be e-mailed to cardholder’s email OR Bank Draft/Postal Order addressed to the “Bangladesh Consulate General in Toronto” OR Applicant may pay through Debit/Credit card at the service counter of the Consulate General.

Step 5: Processing
Consular Agent will examine the application and process.
Step 6: Disposal
By post: Birth Certificate will be sent to the return address.
In-person: To collect the Birth Certificate in-person, applicant may come to the Consulate on the date of delivery mentioned in the payment receipt.
Special note:
- Incomplete Application will not be processed.
- Bangladesh Consulate General reserves the right to request for any additional document at any stage of the application process.
- Bangladesh Consulate General reserves the right to withhold any application for further examination.
- Bangladesh Consulate General reserves the right to reject/cancel any application at any stage of the processing.
- If requires, Bangladesh Consulate General may request applicant for in-person interview.
- Consular fee paid to the Consulate General is non-refundable.
